New Build
Planning Application Coming Soon
We are excited to let you know that a planning application will soon be submitted for the redevelopment of Thorn Grove Primary School. The existing buildings are being replaced and will be demolished once a new building has been built.
Background
The redevelopment of Thorn Grove Primary School is funded by the Department for Education as part of the School Rebuilding Programme. Galliford Try has been selected by the Department for Education to design and build the new school.
Proposals
The proposed redevelopment includes a new, mainly 1 storey building with a 1.5 storey hall space, reconfigured landscaping and vehicle parking.
The new school building will include a hall, library, classrooms, group learning spaces and a kitchen. The site will also accommodate a replacement hard play court, reconfigured playing fields and covered cycle parking.
There will be no change to staff and pupil numbers as a result of the redevelopment, and vehicular and pedestrian access points into the site will remain in the existing locations. The existing buildings will be retained while the new school is constructed to maintain continuity of education throughout the project.
Approach to Environmental Sustainability
The new school building will help to tackle climate change through minimising energy demand and using low carbon and renewable energy solutions.
These will include a bio-solar roof and ground source heat pump. The scheme will also include enhanced landscape and woodland planting.
Have Your Say / Drop in Event
We are holding a drop–in event at Thorn Grove Primary School for anyone who wants to find out more or would like to ask any questions about the proposals. The session will run from 4pm to 7pm on Tuesday 15th July.
