What does the Thorn Grove Governing Body do?
The Governing Body has three main functions:
1. Ensuring clear vision, ethos and strategic direction for the school
2. Providing accountability for school leaders in relation to the educational achievement of pupils and the performance management of staff
3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure it’s money is well spent.
What does being a Governor involve?
The role of the Governing Body is to provide support and challenge to the Head Teacher and the senior leadership team to help them deliver the best possible education for all children at the school. The Governing Body is not responsible for the day to day running of the school. This is the job of the Head Teacher and senior leadership team.
The Governors at Thorn Grove Primary School attend two Full Governors Meetings a term. Some Governors also take on a variety of additional roles.
Governors also attend school regularly to meet with pupils and staff, and to take part in whole school activities and events. There is a maximum of 12 Governors on the Board at any one time. Most Governors serve a term of office of 4 years, although they can be re-elected or appointed if they remain eligible to serve.
Governors have a range of skills. These include education, law, finance, data, ICT, procurement, communication, leadership and administration. We are always happy to hear from people who have relevant skills and are interested in being a Governor at Thorn Grove Primary. If you would like to know more about the role of the Governor, please speak to a member of the Body or contact the Chair.
How do I contact the Governing Body?
The Governing Body can be contacted through the Chair, Tim Buckley, via the school office on 0161 4851177 or by email admin@tgps.uk
