Firefighter Freebairn

Another great big thank you to Mr Rob Hallworth (Thomas and Kate’s Daddy) for being a great sport and bringing all of his firefighting equipment to show the End of Week Nursery children. Much to the children’s amusement, Miss Freebairn dressed up in all of the firefighter’s uniform – including the (incredibly heavy) air tank!

The children really enjoyed learning about all of the brave and brilliant things firefighters do as part of their job.

Parents – thank you!

We would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the Nursery parents who have taken the time to be Secret Readers this term. The children have absolutely loved having surprise guests in to read them new and wonderful stories!

If any more Nursery parents / grandparents / relatives are interested in being a Secret Reader in the Summer Term, pop in and speak to Miss Freebairn, Mrs Yates or Mrs Tucker to arrange.

Nursery Showstopper 09.02.18

Once again, there are a number of Showstopping children this week in Nursery. In the Beginning of Week group, some of our girls have been working hard at creating their very own story maps. Orla, Arabella and Hannah have used the story map templates to create their own versions of our Dear Sea Life story. They were able to use their story maps to verbally tell the story to an adult. Incredible work, girls!

At the end of the week, some of our boys have been shape hunting! Brody, Luka, William and Max managed to find 2D shapes in our Nursery garden – including circles, triangles, rectangles and squares! Keep up the enthusiasm, boys!

Our trip to Sea Life Centre!

On Wednesday 7th of February, the Nursery children travelled by coach to Sea Life Centre Manchester, as part of our ‘Under the Sea’ topic. The children enjoyed finding different sea creatures that we have been learning about, taking part in a workshop where we designed our own sea creature tanks, and then we had a play in the soft play area in the afternoon. An excellent day enjoyed by everybody – and we were all exhausted by 2:00pm.  Miss Freebairn would like to thank those parents who were kind enough to help us on the trip.  ^^^ Hannah stroked a starfish! ^^^

Nursery Showstopper 02.02.18

We have a few showstoppers in Nursery this week. To begin with, we have the ENTIRE Beginning of Week group of children for their contribution to our story “Dear Sea Life” this week. This half-term we have been learning the story ‘Dear Zoo’ and the children have been able to use our story map to tell it independently. We knew it so well that we then innovated the story, changing certain parts to make our own! All of the children helped come up with different animals who live in the sea, along with some fantastic describing words like “splashy” and “floaty”. Click the link bellow to see our “Dear Sea Life” story map below:

Also deserving of a showstopper this week is Lilah Clarke. She used her knowledge of Dear Zoo to create her very own story map using the template that Miss Freebairn had made. She could follow the story map to tell the story out loud. See it here:

A third showstopper goes to Scarlett Shingler for some brilliant number work AND writing this week. She was able to represent the numbers 1-6 using different marks and drawings on paper. On the back, she wrote her full name – first, middle AND last names (with only a teeny tiny bit of help to write her surname):

Fiona demonstrated her love of map-making whilst playing in the outdoor area.  She drew features linked to our story of the week, ‘Goldilocks’.  We will be following Fiona’s map to find the three bears cottage!
