The Thorn Grove ‘SAS’ jump in to action

Today saw the the SAS Sports Ambassador Sqaud role in to action. The newly formed group of 24 dedicated volunteers from year 5 and 6 rolled their sleeves up and started their mission to transform physical activity, PE and sport at Thorn Grove.

This group will be heavily involved with the organisation, delivery and development of physical activity, PE and sport at school.

Our first assignment was to organise and audit all the PE equipment to make sure we have the right balance of apparatus and kit to help us deliver exciting activities to the other children.

Here is the squad in action

Over the next few weeks we will be:

Deciding on our School Sports Organising Crew

Assigning roles

Starting training on delivering a range of activities

Researching and launching whole school competitions and initiatives

We will keep you updated of any new developments regularly on the website.

Brilliant Basketball

A huge well done to our amazing basketball squad who played in the Stockport Primary heats this week.

Basketball is quickly becoming a very popular sport at Thorn Grove and twenty two of our year five and six children represented the school fantastically.

We we entered three teams in to the tournament and all players performed excellently.

The B and C squad battled valiantly  in their groups and missed out on more victories by the smallest of margins.

The A squad managed to remain unbeaten and topped their group. They will move forward to the finals later in the year.

A very special well done must go to Leah, Bradley and Thomas who were recognised for their superb performances and to Mrs Bodley who once again helped coach the team magnificently.

If any KS2 children would like to join the basketball squad, please sign up for Basketball club on Thursday evening. Mr Wilson would be thrilled to add even more numbers to our ever growing basketball programme.

Nursery Showstopper W.B. 8th January 2018

For the first time ever, we have a Number Of The Week! We will have a focus number every week, providing the children with opportunities to learn all about it: how to count to it, what that number of ‘things’ look like, which numbers come before and after it, and how to show it in different ways (on our fingers, by writing the number itself, or by showing an amount of ‘things’ in drawings or marks).

Orla has taken to Number of the Week like a duck to water – she has loved every minute of it and has been drawing 4 things everywhere! 4 circles, 4 lines, 4 flowers, 4 people. See below for a couple of examples. Well done Orla, keep it up!

Reception Showstopper

Fiona demonstrated her love of map-making whilst playing in the outdoor area.  She drew features linked to our story of the week, ‘Goldilocks’.  We will be following Fiona’s map to find the three bears cottage!
