STAR OF THE WEEK
This week our superstar is Precious – for her wonderful attitude to her learning and her behaviour. Precious always tries her best and works as hard as possible and it shows in her progress. She can always be trusted to make good choices and is a friend to everyone in the class.
In addition she is a delightful member of the class as her friendly smile and helpful personality never fades.
Well done, Precious!
THIS WEEK’S SHOW STOPPER
This week’s Showstopper is:
Times Tables for 20th March 2018
|Group 2||Group 3||
2x and 10x tables
aiming for KS1 Bronze and Silver certificates
|2x and 5x and 10x tables
aiming for KS1 Gold certificate
|3x and 4x and 8x tables
aiming for KS2 silver certificate
6x and 7x and 9x and 12x tables
aiming for KS2 Gold certificate
We will test these on Thursdays so please make sure that your child has spent enough time practicing through the week to help them know the facts up to 12x. We aim to complete the sheet in less than 3 minutes so you can help your child by looking for patterns, practicing in order and challenging your child to a quiz. All of the children should be logged in to Times Tables Rock Stars so please encourage them to practice using the different activities and games website.
Spellings for 22nd March 2018
We will test these on Tuesdays so please make sure that your child has spent enough time practicing to help them get most of the words correct. It helps the children to use the words in sentences so that they understand the meaning.
Reading Days Calendar
Hearing your child read each night is really important but it’s also important to:
- read alongside your child so that they can see you read
- talk about the story or book, the characters and what might happen next
- Read in other ways; using the internet, Bug Club, comics or your local library
Topic Homework Project
The Explorers Projects were absolutely wonderful and have been admired by all of the staff and children. Thank you for all of the support, help and encouragement that you all must have given your children.
As this is such a short half term before Easter, I would like this project to last over the Easter break. The end of our project on Explorers is to look at inventions that helped to speed up communications so that the world could find out about our explorer’s discoveries. The title for the project is:
The children can invent a machine, a vehicle, a sport, a way of communicating or a game – it just needs to be a brand new idea, and they can present their idea in any form that they choose. I would love to see the ‘bad’ ideas as much as the final one! They don’t need to actually to make their new invention but it would be wonderful if they did! Please encourage them to be as creative as possible rather than just write down information. The finished project should be handed in during the first week of the Summer term and there will be a small prize for the best.

UPDATES FOR PARENTS
I will be sending home the children’s homework books each week with a note letting you know which group they are in for spellings and times tables. I will also include your child’s spelling errors from Tuesday and their times tables test sheet from yesterday. I will also stick in a Book Review sheet to be completed. Please feel free to do any homework practice in this book and stick in any extra homework practice sheets you do. Thank you for your support.
