STAR OF THE WEEK
I am a little late to update our Superstar Wall so here is a catch up.
2 weeks ago we had double superstars!! Our first was Harry – a fantastic member of our class. Harry is always smiling and having fun, he even has fun answering the register. This term Harry has listened hard and worked hard and is showing his real potential in maths and English. His last piece of writing was an excellent effort but I’m most pleased that we still see ‘crazy’ Harry every day.
Well done Harry, Year 2 is proud of you.
On the same week our other superstar was Daniel – a quite role model in the class. Daniel is an outstanding mathematician, writer and sports person in Year 2 and his challenge has been to challenge himself rather than work within his comfort zone. I have been really pleased to see Daniel be more excited by our learning in class and throwing his hand up in the air to answer questions with a big smile on his face – and it has shown in his learning. I’ve also noticed him sprinting on the playground – a school’s champion in the making!!
Well done Daniel, Year 2 is proud of you.
This week our superstar is Ellie – she is a role model every day. Ellie is a delightful member of the class with a wonderful smile and puts all of her effort into everything that she does. While she can feel nervous when she is a bit unsure she quietly listens, practices and then does her best work. Ellie is totally trustworthy and works hard at home and gets involved in every club that she can find, inside and outside of school – and it all shows in the high standard of her learning. She is an absolute school superstar and a pleasure to have in Year 2 every day.
Well done Ellie, Year 2 is proud of you.
THIS WEEK’S SHOW STOPPER
This week’s Showstopper is:
|Group 2||Group 3||
Olivia and Faye
2x and 5x and 10x tables
aiming for KS1 Gold certificates
|2x and 5x and 10x tables using missing numbers||2x and 5x and 10x tables using division inverse||
6x and 7x and 9x and 12x tables
aiming for KS2 Gold certificate
I have decided to take a step back with those children who already have their KS2 bronze or silver awards as they have made such good progress on their times tables. Now we will be focusing on consolidating their 2x, 5x and 10 facts through missing number and division inverse problems. We will still test these on Thursdays so please make sure that your child has spent enough time practicing through the week to help them know the facts and the inverse operations. We aim to complete the sheet in less than 3 minutes so you can help your child by looking for patterns, practicing in order and challenging your child to a quiz. All of the children should be logged in to Times Tables Rock Stars so please encourage them to practice using the different activities and games website.
We will test these on Tuesdays so please make sure that your child has spent enough time practicing to help them get most of the words correct. It helps the children to use the words in sentences so that they understand the meaning.
Reading Days Calendar
Hearing your child read each night is really important but it’s also important to:
- read alongside your child so that they can see you read
- talk about the story or book, the characters and what might happen next
- Read in other ways; using the internet, Bug Club, comics or your local library
I have added work to the online learning platforms.

Please let me know if you have any problems finding these as it is my first time and I may well have done it wrong.

UPDATES FOR PARENTS
As we have all of the hard work and revision building up to the children’s Standardised Assessment Tests later in May we won’t have a project this half term. If you would like your child to be doing some additional work please practice their spelling of any words that have been in their test lists or practice number bonds or addition or subtraction facts as fast as possible.
PS. please don’t mention the SATs to your child as they hopefully won’t even notice that they are being tested. Thanks
