STAR OF THE WEEK – 24.01.20

for really trying hard to stick to some of the expectations of Year 1. The jump from Reception to Year 1 is a big one, and Orla can sometimes find it a little bit tricky to remember some of our rules! Lately she has really made an effort to try and not shout out on the carpet, and she is learning to be more patient. On top of all that, Orla has been to a few doctor’s appointments lately and has been very brave and, each time, has returned to school without making a fuss.

    Well done!

STAR OF THE WEEK – 31.01.20

for always having a wonderful attitude to school life! Niamh never makes a fuss and always tries to do everything to the best of her ability. She has been working incredibly hard to improve her handwriting during her time so far in Year 1, and I am incredibly proud of her. Keep it up!

    Well done!

This week’s Showstopper is: Holly, Harvey and Brody!

Click here to see and read more about the work that these children did during a recent RE lesson. What lovely ideas!

Spellings – Spellings are sent home with homework on a Friday and tested weekly on the following Wednesday. You will find your child’s most up to date spelling list in their Homework book. Can they beat last week’s score?

Reading – Your child will change their books on the same day each week – details of this can be found on the front of their yellow reading record. Please ensure your child has their books with them on this day. Don’t forget to log in the reading record to show when you have read with your child.

Phonics – Children take part in daily phonics sessions as part of the ‘Read Write Inc’ phonics programme. Please find below links to the speed sounds chart which outlines the letters and sounds that the children will progress through over the year. You can also find a guide to the letter formation rhymes that we use in school to support your child with correct letter formation at home.
