Nursery and Reception do P.E!

This week, the Nursery and Reception classes started PE with Mrs McKeever, one of Stockport’s School Sports Coordinators. This was Nursery’s first PE lesson this year!

The children enjoyed joining in with different games and had to listen extra hard to follow lots of different instructions.

Outdoor Classroom Day 2018

 Mighty Mighty Thorn Grove!

We would like to share some magical moments from our fabulous ‘Outdoor Classroom Day’ earlier this term.  We hope the children told you all about it but if not- here are some highlights!

The day began with an Outdoor Assembly where the teachers shared the Outdoor rules for the day. The number one rule was to enjoy the outdoors!  Each class moved around 6 areas where they took part in a physical activity, circle time, field work, investigation and Forest School challenge.

At play time, the children swapped playgrounds for the day.  During lunch time the whole school shared a picnic on the field.  It was wonderful to see the oldest and youngest children coming together for this!

The afternoon involved children revisiting favourite activities such as den building, compass reading and stone decorating.

Whilst children were busily occupied, each class had an opportunity to toast a marshmallow around the campfire.

This was a special and extraordinary day which we hope children will remember for a very long time!  Many thanks to all our parent helpers who supported the day and to Chris in the kitchen for preparing all the packed lunches!

Nursery & Reception go to Stockley Farm – 16th May 2018

After last year’s success, Nursery and Reception took another trip to Stockley Farm last week. The children met lots of different animals big and small, including rabbits, goats, tortoises and cows!  As well as meeting and feeding the animals, we took a ride on the farmer’s tractor trailer and had some time to enjoy the weather in the outdoor play area. See some of our highlights below:

Our first ‘Forest School’ session

The first session of Forest School has been successfully delivered.  The session included 30 Reception children along with some very helpful and willing volunteers. The children were hugely excited and even though the weather was glorious, a few children insisted on wearing their brand new water proofs- just in case !

The session began around the fire circle where we discussed the Forest School rules.   The children were given an opportunity to mark out the boundaries using ribbon markers.  After which they were gathered to share and reinforce the limitations for Forest School.

The main activity consisted of creating their own journey sticks taking care to find objects of their choice.  All the children were able to remember not to pick any plants (except dandelion’s) and proudly took home their sticks to share with their families.

At the end of the session before reflection time the children were absolutely thrilled to spot a large frog jumping away from the fire circle area.  After lots of squeals of delight the frog was safely removed to the hedgerow away from lots of excited children.

Here are some of the high-lights:

Reception trip to MOSI

The children in Reception recently explored, investigated, discovered and shared lots of fantastic experiences at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester.

The morning involved a workshop called ‘Counting Chaos’ in which the children used their number skills to solve problems.  Next they explored the Air and Space gallery to use their searching skills to identify a range of different types of transport.  After a well-earned lunch the children continued to make new discoveries in the experiment gallery.

The children had a thoroughly great day. Many thanks to the wonderful parents who supported us in a busy, fun-filled day.

EYFS Forest School Trip at Nest In The Woods

Hello!

Nursery and Reception classes had an incredibly fun (and incredibly wet) day at Nest in the Woods in Macclesfield on Wednesday 26th July. Despite the rain and copious amounts of mud, the children all had a brilliant time and it will be remembered by all.

Some of the activities included building fairy homes in Tinker Town, using teamwork to cross the “shark-infested custard”, exploring the adventure playground and making our own forest school medals from wood cookies. We ended the day with toasted marshmallows and a thrill-ride on the mud slide!

After a soggy and slightly sleepy coach journey back to school, all of the children were sent home for a good soak in the bath (a similar story for the teachers and parents, too!). Thank you to all of our parent and family helpers because, as always, we couldn’t have done it without you!
