Y5 & Y6 Cross Country Event

On Tuesday 5th November 2019, Miss Brierley and Miss Freebairn took two boys’ Cross Country teams to an event at Marple Hall School. The boys ran a distance of approximately 1.5 kilometres and were ranked individually and as teams.

Out of 11 schools, our Thorn Grove ‘A’ team came 3rd and our Thorn Grove ‘B’ team came 9th. Two of our boys also finished within the top 10 of over 40 runners. Well done to the boys for putting in a fantastic effort!

Outdoor Classroom Day 2018

 Mighty Mighty Thorn Grove!

We would like to share some magical moments from our fabulous ‘Outdoor Classroom Day’ earlier this term.  We hope the children told you all about it but if not- here are some highlights!

The day began with an Outdoor Assembly where the teachers shared the Outdoor rules for the day. The number one rule was to enjoy the outdoors!  Each class moved around 6 areas where they took part in a physical activity, circle time, field work, investigation and Forest School challenge.

At play time, the children swapped playgrounds for the day.  During lunch time the whole school shared a picnic on the field.  It was wonderful to see the oldest and youngest children coming together for this!

The afternoon involved children revisiting favourite activities such as den building, compass reading and stone decorating.

Whilst children were busily occupied, each class had an opportunity to toast a marshmallow around the campfire.

This was a special and extraordinary day which we hope children will remember for a very long time!  Many thanks to all our parent helpers who supported the day and to Chris in the kitchen for preparing all the packed lunches!

Thorn Grove Athletes Sprint forwards

This evening our determined and committed Year 5 and 6 athletes competed in the Stockport Sportshall Athletics heats at Hazel Grove High School.

Despite losing one of their inspirational coaches (Mr Godwin) to a late unexpected injury. The squad battled on under the watchful eye of Assistant Coach (Mrs Bennett) and late stand-in, Mr Wilson.

The athletes worked wonderfully as a team and narrowly missed out on victories in the individual events. Athletics is a sport decided by hundredths of seconds and millimetres in distance and our squad competed valiantly all evening.

We finished 5th and special mentions must go to Orla and Rayan, who received special awards for their individual performances.

Jodrell Bank Trip – Year 5

On Thursday 20th April 2017 year 5 went on a fabulous visit to Jodrell Bank. The children explored the Lovell telescope, learnt from the incredible scientists who work there and got to experience numerous practical activities. Below you will see an array of pictures celebrating our day.
